U.C. Paws For A Cause Unites Students To Help Dogs

I think it is so wonderful to see young people who are wanting to make a difference, and I especially love seeing young people showing great care for animals.

The University of Cincinnati has a student-run volunteer organization that is all about supporting the important work of our SCPA Cincinnati, and they are holding a fund raiser this spring.

Thank you to Michaela Miller, vice president of Paws for a Cause, for sharing information about her group and their upcoming event below.

Do you have a passion for helping animals? Enjoy exercising while benefiting a great cause? Have a dog of your own that (although we don’t all openly admit this to ourselves) is totally your best friend? If you thought the answer was yes to any of these questions, you’re reading the right blog post.

Yes, yes, and yes. Tell me more!

U.C. students got a kiss from Bentley at the Doggy Kissing Booth event that raised over $400 for the SPCA Cincinnati

On March 29 at Sigma Sigma Commons, University of Cincinnati organization Paws for a Cause will be holding their 1st Annual Paws for a Cause 5k & Raffle to benefit the SPCA Cincinnati. For only $10, you and your pup will be entered to run—or walk—a 5k that weaves the beautiful University of Cincinnati campus. For those of you who forget to sign-up ahead of time, we will be offering same day registration for $12 at the gate. Also, your name will automatically be entered into our raffle, which includes amazing gifts from places such as Cilantro Vietnamese Bistro, Zoup!, and many, many more! And no, I haven’t forgotten that your dog is totally your best friend—we’ll have treats for them, too.

My friend wants to come, but he doesn’t have a dog…

No worries! Anyone and everyone is welcome to sign-up. In fact, if you’ve been thinking that a dog would make the perfect addition to your home, the SPCA Cincinnati will be set up on sight with their mobile adoption unit!

Perfect! But what is Paws for a Cause, anyway?

Paws for a Cause is a student-run organization at the University of Cincinnati that believes strongly in helping the SPCA Cincinnati through fundraising and volunteer work. The idea for the club blossomed one day during a conversation my roommates and I had on how we could integrate our passion to help animals with our desire to be more involved with our community; Then, voila! Paws for a Cause was born. Serving as Vice-President of the club, Paws for a Cause is very special to me. Growing up in a household that rescued beagles all of my life, I learned to believe that the way we treat animals is a direction reflection on who we are as people.

That’s great! What time should I arrive?

Music and registration will begin at 9:30 AM and the race starts at 10:30 AM. Midst the great people, yummy food, cute dogs, awesome prizes, and just down-right fun, I want to remind you the importance of this fundraiser. The SPCA Cincinnati is responsible for the lives of thousands of dogs and cats each year and is an organization that runs solely off of donation. Every penny that we get will be forwarded to the great people at the SPCA Cincinnati whom work hard to assure the best quality of life for all the animals they receive.

Alright, I’m in. Let’s do this.
