Puppy Training
Thank you for wanting to learn more about my puppy training for families and individuals. Have a child? We can incorporate them into training lessons; or learn more about my dog training classes for kids here.
It is a common question, “When should I begin training my new puppy?”
My answer to that is, as soon as you bring your new friend home. (Even earlier, it is a great time to learn about behavior.) Every interaction of every day is a learning and teaching opportunity. Remember, your puppy was not born knowing your rules, and what is and is not acceptable behavior. There will be a lot of things that will be new experiences to your little one as your puppy transitions through the many life changes in the first year. And you will have an important role to play in teaching your puppy that the world is a good place and that there are human approved behaviors they can do to get their needs and wants met.
For families, consider having me spend an hour with you in advance to talk with kids (and parents) about appropriate interactions with your puppy.
Building PUPPYtential Beginner Package
This is a special package just for new puppy owners to help you get off to the best start in raising a well-socialized, stable companion. Understanding how they learn and how you can help your puppy succeed (and yourself) is an important first step and why I spend time in my first appointment teaching clients that foundation. In these sessions, we will cover common issues such as preventing unwanted behavior habits, management, house training, socializing, teaching manners behaviors and much more.
After the completion of this package, you can continue your learning and teaching with packages and lessons that delve further into teaching your puppy behaviors that you will want to see into adulthood.
Puppy Homeschooling
for busy pet owners who would like to have a certified dog trainer do training for them
If you do not have time to do all of the training yourself, I can also be your puppy’s homeschool teacher. Day training is great for teaching or strengthening specific behavior skills such as loose leash walking, crate training, sit/down/settle/stay and more. As part of the day training package, once a week, I will teach you how to maintain and strengthen your pet’s skills.
Puppy Training Client Testimonials
“I have a 6 month old highly energetic toy poodle and didn’t know where to start to teach her the basics of good behavior. Lisa worked with us for 6 weeks and it was a real eye opener for me as I realized that I was the one being taught! Her methods shed light on a different approach to working with your dog. I use the words “working with” rather than training, because it is a mutual learning experience. I really appreciate the knowledge Lisa shared with us, as it is just the beginning of our journey with the newest member of our family.”
~Susan Colding“Lisa was such a help to us with our new Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy who was extremely hyped up all the time and very nippy. Though our puppy was young when we started, Lisa quickly equipped us with tactics to start teaching her self-control. Lisa incorporates play into training, which makes it fun for our little girl, and helps us enjoy her rather than feel overwhelmed by the prospect of training her. Lisa also gave us great tips and handouts with games that incorporated our training goals and were manageable to work on during the week. With our prior dog, we went to puppy and obedience classes and the dog learned lots of tricks, but had NO self-control and was always a little stressed/high-strung. If you are looking for a dog trainer to help you teach your dog to be calm rather than just learn a few tricks, I’d highly recommend using Lisa. She is a great resource on pet behavior and positive training. Our puppy loved her and so did we!”
~ Liz Fuller“We adopted Auggie, our then 8 week old Aussiedoodle, in March, 2021. We were big fans of positive reinforcement training and Lisa was exactly the type of trainer were seeking. At first Auggie was shy and wouldn’t even let Lisa get close enough to walk her. Lisa helped train and provide the skills to my wife and me to get Auggie to feel more comfortable and confident and also pay attention to her body language. We feel like we have made great strides training with Lisa for just a few short months. While Auggie (and we!) still have work to do, I would highly recommend Lisa as a patient skilled trainer and dog behavior expert. I will definitely work with her again as the need for maintenance sessions warrant.”
~Jim Matt“Lisa came to our house to help us train our 4 month old puppy, Frankie. She has been so supportive throughout the training process-answering email and texts in between sessions and sending us links and advice. Lisa involved my two children in every session which added to the fun when training her.
We purchased the Puppy Package and then extended our sessions in order to work with Lisa more. Lisa came with a plan for training but also listened to our needs and wants for Frankie’s training. We have really enjoyed our time with Lisa. Frankie and our family learned so much!”
~ Robyn White“Lisa helped train our Vizsla puppy Rosie! We could not have asked for a more intuitive, knowledgeable, and caring trainer. Vizsla’s tend to be a little wild and crazy, and Lisa’s knowledge, skills and positive training style was perfect for us. She created a wonderful learning environment for us and our puppy in the comfort of our own home. We loved the fact that we could train in the environment where Mark and I and the kids spend the most time with Rosie. In the beginning, Lisa helped with Rosie’s anxiety over crate training and also helped with most of the basic puppy issues such as house training, and obedience behaviors. We also took Rosie to the park to teach her to walk on lease while being exposed to outside distractions. Lisa was a calming influence on us, and our puppy, and taught us dog psychology and dog behavior along with how to implement that knowledge in our everyday lives. Her influence and thoroughness has gotten us the results we were looking for. She trained us as much as the puppy and always welcomes questions and concerns. Thanks, Lisa, for all the work and time you put into helping us and Rosie. We love you!”
~The Blumenfeld Family“I wanted to let you know that Abbie is now a certified therapy dog. She passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test at one year of age. Our first assignment was the Glendale Place Care Center representing the Canine for Christ organization. Abbie did great. Even though Abbie is still a puppy, she is so calm and mellow and follows my basic commands.
The activity director and residents love her. Looking back, Abbie and I would not have achieved this milestone without your tremendous help in puppy training.”
