Practice teaching your dog (or cat or parrot or other pet) that good things happen when you walk by while he is eating or in possession of something great. Teach your dog to willingly let go of his prize by exchanging it for something even more valuable. You can even give his prize right back to him. There are many times in a dog’s life where having the skill of ‘drop’ will come in very handy.
